Leta S. and her husband joined NorthPointe soon after they moved to Rockton in 2010. They had belonged to the YMCA and various health clubs in Rockford for over 20 years. North Pointe had done quite a media spread when first opening so we were familiar with the facility. They appreciated the more health focused aspect of North Pointe and were impressed with the facility.
Leta had personally struggled with motivation to exercise when working over 60 hours per week while in her 60s.
“I experienced the usual euphoria of intention – sort of like a New Year’s resolution that I was going to take advantage of the facility and really exercise on a routine basis as I had in my 30s, 40s and early 50s. My enthusiasm for exercise on a regular basis has surged and waned over the 12 years since we first joined North Pointe,” said Leta.
Leta experienced her highest level of motivation and of fitness after April 2017 when she opted to have a trainer on a regular basis and worked with Andy Swanson. Andy was always positive and cognizant of Leta’s age-related limitations. He encouraged Leta to find exercise which fit her physical abilities and helped extend her fitness.
“The facility itself has always been a positive motivation. It allows for a variety of exercise options whether walking/running outdoors, swimming or working out in one of the pools, taking group classes or working out in the “machine” areas. The staff at North Pointe, whether reception, trainers, housekeeping, or management are all friendly and welcoming as well. No matter one’s level of fitness, each of us is recognized respectfully for being there to try to improve or maintain our health,” said Leta
Leta also enjoys the healthy and tasty options at the café.
“Oddly, I have found I also really enjoy the café area and selections. I hate to admit that I am motivated to come to the facility and exercise so I can enjoy my half sandwich and fruit or a cup of soup afterwards. I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed this feature until Covid caused a two-year interruption of this service. Now that the offerings have returned, I admit I am more motivated to go to North Pointe to exercise,” said Leta.
