According to researchers from McMaster University in Ontario, high-intensity interval training (HIIT) can improve memory function by up to 30% in healthy older adults/seniors. Whereas seniors participating in moderate exercise and/or stretching programs did not demonstrate an average improvement in memory.
Dementia affects 9 million Americans, mostly seniors. Although there aren’t many studies on the effects of dementia patients participating in HIIT, physical activity is the utmost modifiable risk factor for dementia. Despite this common misconception, most people are not at genetic risk.
For more information on the health benefits of HIIT, please consult a fitness specialist.
